Q. What is BJJ ?

A. BJJ stands for Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu, a martial art and combat sport that focuses on grappling and ground fighting. Its core philosophy is that a smaller, weaker person can successfully defend themselves against a bigger, stronger opponent using leverage, technique, and joint locks or chokeholds.


Q. What are some of the benefits ?

A. Discipline, confidence, self defence, friendships, fitness – the list goes on !


Q. How old do you have to be to start at Rush bjj?

A. We take Youth / Adults from 14 years.


Q. How much are the lessons ?

A. The first lesson is free after that we ask for a monthly direct debit of £50 a month for access to 3 BJJ and 2 Judo classes per week.


Q. What do you wear on the first night ?

A. Wear a T shirt and jogging bottoms, we will loan a jacket and belt until you purchase a kit of your own.


Q. Where do you get the kit from and how much is it ?

A. We can supply a basic entry level suit for £45. They can range in quality and price after that. Rushjudo / Rushbjj has trade accounts with all the top retailers so always ask us before choosing amazon !


Q. Is there a National Governing Body like the FA in football ?

A. Yes we are affiliated to the UKBJJA ( Uk Brazilian Jiu-jitsu association ) the club has paid for all our members to be insured when training at our venue.


Q. What is the grading belt system ?

A. White – Blue – Purple – Brown – Black

New grades are issued at the Head coaches discretion. This is based on the individuals competency, to ensure they move through the belts at the right skill level.
